How to Apply

Aspiring students who wish to pursue Medical education in India should appear for a National level entrance exam called NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and secure minimum 50 percentile marks in physics, chemistry and biology to qualify and apply for Counseling to secure a seat in any of the desired Medical college in India. NEET examination centers are only located in India as of now. Students of Indian origin who wish to pursue Medical education outside India also need to qualify in NEET entrance exam if they wish to come back to India after completion of MBBS course either to practice as physician or to pursue PG Medical course. From the year 2020 onwards two national level entrance exams I.e., AIIMS & JIPMER are also included in NEET. So, if the students wish to pursue MBBS course from these two universities also need to appear and qualify in NEET.

NEET EXAM

NEET UG Exam is conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) body formed by ministry of HRD, Govt of India. Neet UG is a pen and paper based exam with objective type questions from Physics, Chemistry and Botany & Zoology. Syllabus is based on class 11 and 12. Neet UG is conducted for 200 minutes (3hrs 20mins) comprising 200 questionsand comprises of 50 questions each in Physics, Chemistry, Zoology and Botany with 4 marks per question and max marks of 720. Every student can attempt only 45 questions per subject and +4 marks to be awarded for correct answer and -1 mark deducted for wrong answer.

  • Students From Gulf Region can appear for theExam from - Kuwait, Dubai, Abu Dhabi,Sharjah, Doha, Muscat and Riyad.

  • 200 Questions

  • Divided into: Section A – 35 Mandatory Questions

  • Section B – 15 Optional Questions (Answer 10 out of 15)

Categories

Medical colleges in India are of the following categories –

  • Government Medical Colleges which could be State/Central Govt Owned.

  • Deemed to be Universities (Universities which conduct their own annual exam and award degree).

  • Private Medical Colleges (Self financed and are affiliated to State Universities)

Counselling-

Counseling in India after the publication of NEET results is conducted by Director General of Health Sciences under a committee called Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) for the following category of seats.

  • 15% of the seats in all Govt Medical colleges in the country under All India Quota category.

  • 100% seats in the central universities like AIIMS, JIPMER Aligarh Muslim University.

  • 100% seats Deemed to be universities in India.

Counseling for the remaining 85% of seats in Govt Medical colleges is conducted by Individual State govt.

Counseling for 100% seats in Private colleges affiliated to State Universities is also conducted by State Govt

Eligibility Criteria

Student studied outside India are eligible for following category of seats

  • 15% seats under AIQ in Govt Med colleges Counseling of which is conducted by Medical council committee on All India basis.

  • 100 % seat in Deemed to be universities which comprises of 85% management seats and 15% NRI category seats (type of category to be chosen depends on the Neet score, if score is more than apply under management quota).

  • 100 % seat in central universities like AIIMS, JIPMER & Aligarh Muslim University.

  • 15% NRI seats in self financed private medical colleges affiliated to state govt universities. (In case of Counseling being conducted by the state govt, students who have completed class 10 and 12 outside will be considered under NRI category only. However some of the states like Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh would consider all students with valid Neet score for all categories of seats)

Counseling for the remaining 85% of seats in Govt Medical colleges is conducted by Individual State govt.

Counseling for 100% seats in Private colleges affiliated to State Universities is also conducted by State Govt

Seats are categorised as

All India General Category – 85% & 15% as NRI/Foreign National Category seats in Private/Self Financed Institutions also has 85% seats in General Category which includes State quota seats & Management seats (Break up of seat matrix in this category varies in each state) and remaining 15% seats are categorized as NRI seats.

Fees Structure

  • Fee structure for AIQ Category seats in Govt medical college through MCC counseling is between INR 4000- 100000 per year which depends on the medical college selected.

  • Fee structure for 85% seats under Management category in Deemed universities under MCC Counseling ranges between INR 1100000 to 2575000. Per year which varies from university to university

  • Fee structure for NRI category seats in Deemed universities under MCC Counseling ranges from USD$ 38500- 65000 per year which varies from the university to university

  • Fee structure for self financed private medical college affiliated to state govt universities ranges from INR 100000 to 1100000 depending on the category of seats selected.

  • Fee structure for the NRI category of seats in self financed private medical colleges affiliated to state govt universities ranges from INR 2000000 to 4000000 varies from college to college.
